The Best Books of 2012 According to Goodreads

This is a good resource for those looking for some new books to read. Remember, it is a reader chosen list, not a list compiled by book critics.

The page is laid out nicely with each genre being shown by the winning book, then you can click on that book to get the list within that genre.

1. The fact that "Fifty Shades Freed" won for romance pretty much negates the results for me

How ANYONE could give a "Fifty Shades" book an award (unless it's "worst drivel of the year&quot tells me all I need to know about the taste of these readers.

2. I don't expect everyone to have the same taste in books as I do

but there are some very good books listed on there so no, the whole book list is certainly not negated for me. I don't read any "romance" novels so I don't even care about that category.

I tend not to be the type to throw the baby out with the bath water, however. Many of the books in other categories I found to be excellent books.

YMMV.

television shows, which I mostly stopped watching years ago. Movies pretty much the same. My wife and I just work for there is nothing else to do.

I can understand not reading various genres, or only reading one or two genres, but there really are a lot of very good books out there. I have found that many novels that are hugely hyped aren't as good as others think, so I've learned to dig a little deeper to find the ones that I like.

But not reading at all? Oh, my.

every night, and I've read quite a few diabetic books. But fiction? No. I don't have the time to read even if I could find something worthwhile. The last thing I read in fiction was most of the Philippa Gregory books: The Red Queen, The White Queen, etc. and I enjoyed them. But every other fiction book I started, I threw away after a few chapters. I used to read at least one fiction book a week. My wife would read a fiction book every two days. Now neither of us read--neither does our daughter. I have a Pandigital and my wife has a Kindle--both lie idle. But I am glad you are still reading and are able to enjoy it.

8. I cannot imagine life without reading, both fiction and non-fiction.

For me, no matter how busy my day has been there are always little bits of time to read.

I have noticed that because I've read so very many thousands of books over my lifetime that I am pickier than ever about what I'm willing to spend the time on.

if you read fiction is by Louise Penny and is "The Beautiful Mystery." In fact, I recommend all in her Gamache series, in order.
