I'm running out of characters... Butch Karp and Marlene, Dr Scarpetta and Pete, Dave, Clete and Alafair , Spenser and Susan, Sunny , Jesse Stone, Brady Coyne, McCone and Rybinski, Supt Jury and friends, Rumpole and others.
I need some suggestions on mystery reads. Tips?

(48,219 posts)Ruth Rendell's Inspector Wexford series: The English village mystery updated to a much grimmer England than Agatha Christie rights about
Peter James:His "Dead Simple," about a stag party prank that goes horribly wrong and has a sinister background, was a real page turner. I've since read most of his other books.
Peter Robinson: His Inspector Banks novels, about a former London cop transferred to a small Yorkshire village, are densely plotted and full of interesting characters and situations.
Reginald Hill: Since Hill died recently, there will be no more Dalziel and Pascoe novels, which is a shame. Dalziel is a grumpy older cop with a raunchy sense of humor, and Pascoe is younger and university educated. You may have caught the TV series when it was shown on A&E back in the day.

Oh, and Craig Johnson (his 4 first four are terrific)....
Look here for all of them:

(look at the "Genre" section)
The ones I suggested all have some humor, just like Robert Tanenbaum's series (didn't care for his last 5 or so....the early ones are his greatest....
Oh, and Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, and a whole bunch of others...

Alafair Burke has some books out, also Marcia Mullers Sharon McCone, William G Tapply has the Brady Coyne series. He also write some outdoor non-fiction. Patricia Cornwell writes the Dr Scarpetta mysteries. M Graves writes the Supt Jury stories.
The above recommended website is a great resource...
