Want to tell yall about a good mystery series I recently discovered.

The Chet and Bernie mysteries, by Spencer Quinn.

Chet and Bernie comprise the Little Detective Agency. Bernie is the human half of the business; Chet is the canine half.

What’s so great about this series is that Chet narrates the books. And he does project the viewpoint of a dog; very interested in smells, thinks his owner is wonderful, satisfied with very simple pleasures. These books are often humorous. Sometimes the plot isn’t terribly strong, but I could overlook that because the Chet’s viewpoint is so enjoyable.

There are four books in the series and Amazon says the author is working on a fifth.

I've also read them all (in order, even!) with the exception of Misery Bay. It's still priced out of sight on kindle, so I'm waiting 'til I get near a library or used book store to pick it up.

I don't think I've read his books that take place in New York, but I did read "The Lock Artist," which seems to take place in Michigan, although the state and the area do no figure prominently in the book. That might have been his best work yet.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic, but it sure is a great mystery series!

Won the Best Novel Edgar Award in 2011.

(Though, truth be told, I preferred the Queen of Patpong by Timothy Hallinan)

I read and enjoyed it very much. Reminds me, there's a few I've got to get yet....

This is the book that taught me how to get coffee filters stuck together apart...the queen uses lipstick, I just moisten my lip

then sort of forgot about them. Stumbled across the most recent one a week ago at the library, and discovered that there's a third one I'd missed, so that's on reserve now.

I just love Chet. I love the way he, doglike, is easily distracted by things. For him everything good is the best thing ever. He truly lives in the moment.
