Anyone live in one of those 55+ places?

I would appreciate the pros and cons from anyone who has lived in a 55+ community. I'm thinking about buying a home/condo in a 55+ community in Oregon or Washington.

Yes, I live in one. It's just a condo/villa situation that just has the restriction of "over 55 only" mitch96 Mar 2025 #1

No gates, no guards. It works for me...I don't mow the lawn, I don't mess with the pool. Cable, water and trash included with the monthly fee.

Cons: they can be very 'clique-ish' ~ gossipy ~ lots of Republicans ~ think Junior High School

Pros: Many have an activities Director ~ Many have a club house with meeting rooms, swimming pool, ballroom, kitchen, golf course ~ I learned to line dance ~ Organized game nights ~ outside entertainment brought in ~ Artsy-craftsy kinds of activities ~ Other dancing lessons ~ Speakers ~ Movies ~ no one asks you to baby-sit ~ gets you around people

Mind you I live in the East Valley of the Phoenix Metro area ~ lots and lots of Seniors here.
