my grandson and I can make some toad cottages; we have pacific chorus frogs, and, being in the desert, I'm never sure how they survive. I know they live in the drainage pipe that runs under the barn. I also found them in a water-main box that leaks a little. Plus, a couple end up in my bathtub every spring. Do they actually climb up the drains???

Anyway, It would be interesting to see if we could build them some other shelter/habitats; if it worked, that could be next year's xmas gifts for all.

That sounds like a fun and worthy project! I'll bet your grandson just loves to spend time with you, regardless what
you're doing.

This last spring/summer Texas was like a desert and every living thing was just desperate and hanging on by a thread. I had a few toads which I made a point of creating watering holes and shelter for and that is where they hung out. They almost became like pets
and were surprisingly sociable with us and the other animals (who didn't bother with them). I was happy to have them
because I was invaded by grasshoppers and they found them very tasty. One toad became HUGE.

We've had an unseasonably warm December, which seems to be interrupting our frog's winter hibernation; they aren't active, but they're awake.
