Young airborne and a friend showed up from Bragg. Around 04:30 on leave crashing here until his mom gets home Monday morning. Even though I quit drinking I hooked them up and made run yesterday to get several cases of beer as they are only 19 years in age. I was young once but we still drank even under age in Fayetteville and at home on leave in Appalachia nobody carded you in 1984 so I get it.
So 05:00 this morning Im reading these two the riot act no driving just relax here today I got a ok. And then young airborne gave me my 53rd birthday gift a maroon beret shaved with my 325th PIR flash.
So I sat listening to how they are applying for RASP ranger assessment program we used call it Rip. These two want the RANGER TAB and want to go to 75th regiment, I respect that drive I was listening to them tell me about their plt sgt a fine NCO.
The conversation turned to airborne and I told them one of the most awesome moments was standing getting ready go to work and looking out back of the bird and it was nighttime and I could see flashes of lighting memories of youth.

(2,679 posts)Thats very thoughtful to get you a beret, shave and shape it and get your old flash on it.
Seems like they still square away young troopers on whats important.
Tell them thanks for serving and good luck on going to the Ranger Regiment.
