What ails veterans (not what you think).

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]This insightful article was written for Zocalo Public Square, but was also picked up by the Sacramento Bee and Time. It adds a new perspective to the discussion on how to help our veterans.

I miss the Army and the people I worked with immensely. Getting out of the Army, in many ways, was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

It's amazing how you can be completely new to a unit or a duty assignment and you'll instantly have friends. I've never experienced that outside of the Army. Hell, even outside of the Army, whenever I find a veteran I feel that same sense of family and camaraderie. I instantly have a ton in common with that veteran - regardless if they were a vet from my time or another time.
