An active tornado season, historic flooding and other severe weather have impacted millions of Americans this year. As we step into a strong forecasted hurricane season, its important for Veterans and their families to know that the VA is here to help. In the wake of a disaster, here are some resources available to you.

So far we have been fortunate over the years. A little damage during Katrina.

(4,235 posts)3. Personally, I think it's a good idea for veterans to join 1 of 3 veterans' groups;
the VFW, the DAV, or (my personal favorite) the American Legion. Because all three of these groups have local chapters, as a member, you can always find someone to help in your time of need, often in your own neighborhood.
I know that the members of the American Legion will try their best to help any veteran, but there are funds set aside specifically to aid fellow Legionaires in the event of a natural disaster. I'm sure the other two organizations have similar programs.
