The closest Med Center in NY for me is in Albany - a 2 1/2 drive away....there's one only 20 minutes from me in Vermont which when I needed it was not afforded to me. Many 5 hour drives for 45 min or less visits for specialty care. Waste of time and money.

I have 2 VA doctors, my primary care doctor, and my psychiatrist. All of my specialty doctors are non-VA because the nearest VA specialty doctors are more than a 30-minute drive away or you can't get an appointment in 28 days or less. There is also emergency care and urgent care. Also, you get, I think it has gone up to 62 cents a mile travel pay, minus $6 for VA and non-VA doctors.
