Read a letter my friends son at benning, trooper is doing ok

Great kid my friends son , my friend brought a letter mailed to me a old infantry turd via a letter to his parents he handed it to me at pre shift last night , not slamming young soldier I posted about him in vets section awhile back. In school he was in learning disability classes and just scored high enough on asvab that he only qualified for combat arms or parachute rigger. The kid chose 11Boo infantry and he’s doing ok keeping it glued together.

In reading letter so I gather their in maybe fifth or sixth week and they qualified he is proud he shot expert cool, I smiled reading that cool first badge for the fruit salad on your chest ribbons and awards. In his letter he has dreams of airborne school and above and beyond, smiling when in reading his letter I’m thinking you have about sixteen weeks to graduate take it day by day. The dreams of going to rasp Ranger assessment or the SF selection is way down the road, not far yet you have awhile young soldier I’m thinking.

Kid was always catching crap for being learning disabled from other students, that in no way defines a person people we know are assholes, yet in his letter I read he’s building confidence In himself and that’s excellent. Benning produces fine infantry soldiers they have it down to a science, personally after I graduated in 84 and went to the 82nd I felt I was a savage come to find out I didn’t know shit after hitting the 325 pir yet I got up to speed real fast thankfully to fine NCO’s.

So a toast over coffee to those in the infantry benning produces fine soldiers young savages and future alcoholics and ill adjusted civilians drive on.
