"He called on Republican lawmakers in the U.S. Congress to negotiate with his fellow Democrats on gun reforms."

To leave the President's call unanswered is a bad message from Republicans. To say 'no' to negotiations on progress or discussion is to have Republican attitudes characterized as being 'negotiation is a non-starter' and that is NOT what a good and reasonable legislator does.
I see Republicans often run down Democrats saying about some that they're afraid, afraid to handle a gun, afraid to have a neighbor that owns a gun.
At the very least Democrats aren't afraid to discuss the situations and the laws.

The more they have to explain, they are LOSING.

It's not just because our policies actually work, it's as much because the gunner's policies have lead to their inevitable outcome. Nearing two mass shootings a day.
They used to say "Mass shootings cause just a small part of the deaths". As the % of deaths from mass shootings continues to grow they have grown silent. The next step is for them to normalize mass shootings.

'No F-ing way' regarding negotiations is a winning position in almost all of the Republican primaries.
