Soaring Gun Demand Boosts Firearm Maker Stocks

Yeah, I know Barron's is a Murdoch joint- but the numbers check out *for the companies mentioned* (see caveat below)

... Sturm Ruger & Co. (ticker: RGR) was up 1% to $63.35 Monday morning, and has climbed roughly 35% year to date, while Smith & Wesson Brands (SWBI) was climbing 2.1% to $16.88 and has surged 137% in 2020. Vista Outdoor (VSTO), which makes ammunition and other outdoor products, was rising 4.5% to $21.62 and has soared 189% this year, a period that’s seen the S&P 500 climb nearly 5%.

Conversely, Colt is privately owned, and Remington is bankrupt, as DUer sl8 noted recently:

If you're willing to pay panic prices, you can get guns & ammo. My BIL just bought his first AR-15 (a Ruger). The local gun shop was asking $850 plus tax, which is actually a very fair price at the moment. There's plenty of 5.56x45 available online if you're willing to pay a buck a round.....

eventually will rein in the buying frenzy.

I am seeing and hearing comments like "$50/box for 9mm???? WTF. I'll pass."

And then if Congress passes a new Assault Weapons Ban, I would anticipate prices rising to levels never seen. In the weeks prior to such a ban being enacted, I wouldn't be surprised to see (for instance) Ruger AR-556 rifles selling for $2000+.
