DEL MAR, Calif. 'The Crossroads of the West Gun Show' is returning this weekend at Del Mar, CA, after a nine-month hiatus, and more people are expected because it was suspended for so long. Nearly 10,000 people are expected to attend the gun show in Del Mar this weekend.
Last year, the Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors voted to suspend the gun show in response to requests from gun safety advocates. Crossroads filed a lawsuit against the fairgrounds and state of California. The lawsuit claimed the ban violated their first and second amendment rights the right to commercial speech and the right to assembly. A federal judge issued an injunction in June allowing the shows to resume, and this weekends show will be the first one since that ruling.
Assembly Bill 893 has the potential to permanently end guns sales at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Governor Gavin Newsom has until October 13 to sign or veto the bill.
The group Never Again CA is targeting the Del Mar gun show. We have children that pass by the gun show on their way to a lock down drill at school, said Rose Ann Sharp.
Rose Ann Sharp, who is the founder of Never Again CA, said she wants to stop the sales of firearms and ammunition on state owned property.

(42,649 posts)More guns that might be sold to straw buyers, and later used to kill innocent people.
More guns in the hands of people who will use them in anger.
More guns to defend civilians from an oppressive Government.
What could possibly go wrong?

What more could you possibly want?

Do kids have lockdown drills at school on weekends?

(5,075 posts)what the founder of Never Again CA said:
Furthermore, it sounds like you are intimating that the mere presence of an advertising sign is a threat to the public?

(14,559 posts)The point being made is that for people, in this case school kids, who are intimidated by guns because of some trigger, in this case active shooter drills, do not have to walk the aisle of a gun show to be frightened. The mere presence of the show and it's promotion can be enough.
Just as the gun show promoters have a 'right' to put on their displays, the local citizenry also has a 'right' to give input to local government about it. That is what they are doing.

(706 posts)The OP and Article says nothing about the signs. You have inflated from "Bad Gun Show" to "Bad Signs."
Also, those same kids will go home and play Call to Duty and watch all three of the John Wick movies instead of doing their homework or studying. Anti gun parents might project and say "Oh the horror of those signs" but I doubt the kids will give it a thought. I know I wouldn't have when I was a kid. I might have even wanted to go to the gun show, which is maybe what you are worried about.

(18,602 posts)...there is the saying, 'Your right to swing a fist ends where my nose begins.'
In view of this, swinging a fist to within a few inches of a nose may incite a negative reaction.
OTOH, there are those with an inflated opinion of their noses.

(18,602 posts)Jimmy Durante Blvd skirts the parking lot which is about 300 feet from the exhibit area. Now for most folks trying to get from the North side of the grounds to the South or vice versa, the Camino Del Mar and I-5 both provide a route further from that evil parking area.
The folks who actually live closest to the venue on the North side need to drive Southeast to get to the high school. Those closest on the South need to drive North (around the venue) to reach the middle school. I personally wouldn't pay over to $2 million for a tract house 2 miles from the middle school if I had school age children, but that's me. Nor would I live in a town with no middle school at all.
However, as has already been pointed out, the subject event is always held on a weekend.
I have a buddy that lives in the next town North of Solona Beach with some school age kids. I will ask him if he's concerned about driving by the venue...or at least by a sign for the venue.
I would personally be more offended to have to drive by a trump sign.

(5,824 posts)Makes me wonder how a young child going through school lock down drills these days would feel about driving by a sign that says they are going to have a big gun sale close by. And then there is the fact that 10,000 people will be showing up nearby to buy guns.
But hey, what's the problem, right?
I'm also offended by Trump signs.

(18,602 posts)...ever drive by a regular gun shop which remains present 24/7/365?
Or do those shops have no signs?

Perhaps Del Mar is a bit more sheltered.
Welcome to the group, regardless.

(6,799 posts)Is that any more cause for concern than the roughly 8,000 murders a child will have seen dramatized on television by the time he/she finishes elementary school?
