An employee closing up shop at a Little Caesars restaurant in Florida on Saturday night shot and killed a man in a clown mask after he was attacked with a wooden post, according to authorities.
Police in Holly Hill, Florida, said the employee exited the back door of the pizza place just before midnight when a man in a grotesque clown mask jumped him with a wooden post. According to the police report, the post broke over the man's back, upon which the attacker tried to stab the employee with a pair of scissors.
The victim responded by pulling out his concealed firearm and firing "four or five shots" at the attacker, according to the police report. When authorities responded, the attacker was found lying in the parking lot with the mask still on and scissors by his body, police said.
He was taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he was pronounced dead.

Self defense or vigilantism?

(6,962 posts)It's easy in hindsight to wonder if he needed 4-5 shots if one would have been sufficient to wound the assailant. Likely that being attacked like that kicked in the adrenaline. Hard to call it overshooting and hard to call it vigilantism. Doesn't look like the Little Caesar's guy was out looking for a fight at he existed.
I'm not usually a fan of CC and worry about over-defense but this one feels righteous.
IMHO...open to see if different if there's new data on the table.

"I've got nothing else...just wow!"

(18,602 posts)...armed up by strapping on a gun or two ahead of time planning to kill the first person who he thought might be attacking him, I'm gonna say vigilantism. I mean it's not like he had a protection order or was a politician or even just popular celebrity who might be the object of a stalker.
Really? It astounds me. The judge, jury, executioner types that think it's somehow heinous to prepare for self-defense with a tool that isn't the equivalent of a can of beans.

(49,445 posts)I think you mean a mesh sack of beans. A small one. Not more than 2 ounces. Anything over 2 ounces constitutes an "assault weapon".

(18,602 posts)A 220 grain .30-06 is around a half ounce IIRC.

(17,493 posts)In this case what we have is a victim of an attack using legitimate self defense to stop an attacker who obviously intended to put him in the hospital for an extended stay or six feet under. Watch the video.
It should be pointed out to those who plan to attack others with a weapon that in Florida over one million residents have a concealed weapons permit and many carry on a regular basis. If you intend to attack an innocent person in Florida you take the risk that he may be able to defend himself with a legally concealed handgun or knife. A concealed weapons permit in Florida allows an individual to carry a gun, stun guns, billy clubs and knives while in Florida.
The fact that the attacker was wearing a clown mask is interesting but irrelevant.

(706 posts)Payback for his former victims and no future victims. WTF is with calling that a clown mask?
