Licensed gun owners who are 21 and older would be able to carry concealed weapons on public college campuses in Georgia if Gov. Nathan Deal signs a bill headed to his desk.
The proposal cleared the state Senate on Friday, 37 to 17.
The legislation would allow anyone age 21 and older to carry concealed handguns on campuses if they have the proper permit.
Concealed-carry license holders would not be able to carry firearms into athletic facilities or student housing, including fraternity and sorority houses.

(1,786 posts)UGA is a good school, I have mentored several interns from there in my lab. Sad to see them allow this on campus but there are other schools just as good that do not allow this.
Happy Friday to you, I hope you have a good weekend.

(87 posts)...so I don't see why it would be a problem now.
The predictions that licensed concealed carry would lead to "Wild West shootouts" and "blood running in the streets" just never seem to come true, whether it's in general or on college campuses -- but for some reason, that doesn't seem to stop people from predicting it again.
Oh, well -- maybe this time, unlike all the other times, the predictions will come true.
Or, much more likely, not. Again. Still.

(2,493 posts)Or a bit of hysteria created by the controllers. 7 states allow campus carry by law, and 22 others leave the decision up to the individual schools. I'm not aware of any classroom shootouts by people exercising campus carry rights.

(6,185 posts)I was told by "authoritative" DU gun control experts last Summer, that the new Georgia gun laws, e.g, "Guns Everywhere", would obviously lead to a bloodbath any minute.
Still waiting for all the stories of the shootings in parking lots, produce departments, libraries etc. that we were assured were right around the corner.
So I just naturally assumed that there would already be massive murders on campus of course.
Amazing how some people just never get tired of being wrong and making themselves the target of laughter again and again.

(87 posts)...I can't think of anyone who is allowed to be wrong in their predictions so consistently and still listened to, than those predicting carnage from licensed concealed carry.
