Yes, I'm absolutely serious because that is the depths of the anti-gun mania. They don't care how legitimate a cause a person may have to defend themselves they are complete zealots that the people be disarmed.

And if they would grudgingly admit that the victim was entitled to possess a gun in this instance -- seeing as it was brought into his home by criminals -- under what argument do they complain that the same homeowner should not be allowed to go to a licensed gun dealer after passing a background check?

Forgive me for being so gauche as to point this out but -- anti-gun zealots seem to suffer from a substantial internal inconsistency.

if guns were outlawed, criminals would be unlikely to have guns, violent crime would rarely happen or incidents like this wouldn't be particularly newsworthy, and, oh look, squirrel...

There's rarely a desire for discussion of the particulars of the incident like the OP, notably the fact that two burglars even without firearms are extremely dangers or even a healthy and strong man trained in Krav Maga almost didn't survive the encounter, to say nothing if he were old, frail, a smaller woman, etc. It's generally why the same people complaining about "stand your ground" or "castle doctrine" laws are the same demanding strict gun control. I often believe that some (although certainly not all) of such people believe the life of a violent attacker(s) is more important than their victim, and if self-defense is legally employed, it should still be a "fair" fight.
