I am from NY and live in Florida. My daughter was married last August in NY. Her wife's family lives in Florida too. We have discussed what we would have to do if something should happen to them when they visit us. As a legally married couple in NY, they would have NO RIGHTS at all in Florida. It would be up to us blood relatives to fight the state of Florida to ensure their rights.

It should not have to be this way. Fingers crossed that their legal rights are recognized.

my wife and I (both in our '60s) got married in Ottawa, Ontario, had our honeymoon on my sisters farm in upstate NY then came back to FL where we live. Both families acknowledge our (legal) marriage but while we live here, the legality of our marriage is ziltch. We've been together since 1991, work hard and pay our fair share of taxes but that's about it. It sickens me.
