Queen pardons Alan Turing

Nearly 60 years after his death, Alan Turing, the British mathematician regarded as one of the central figures in the development of the computer, received a formal pardon from Queen Elizabeth II on Monday for his conviction in 1952 on charges of homosexuality, at the time a criminal offense in Britain.

But it's a step in the right direction. If the rather ancient Queen can make this point, there's hope.

People are stupid. It takes them a long time to learn stuff...and then, once they learn it, they manage to forget it in a generation or three, and then have to learn it all over again.

Hopefully we've evolved to the point where we don't have to learn these lessons anymore.
