FIV is Feline Immunodediciency virus and is now known not to be as deadly as once thought.

FIP is feline infectious peritonitis and had been until recently a death sentence for cats.

There is a new treatment protocol that had been on the black market for a couple of years but is now (as of June, 2024) available for vets to legally prescribe. It is GS-442525 and is a form of Remdesvir that was used in COVID-19 patients.

Our FIV+ boy lived outdoors for nearly 6 years. We'd tried to bring him indoors a couple of years ago, but my (then) senior rescue girl absolutely was not sharing her "territory." She departed peacefully of old age for the Rainbow Bridge in July, after a wonderful life with us for 14 years, so he is back inside now and doing very well.

Right before it became legal, she was meeting her dealer in a Walmart parking lot. The cat was on death’s door, but pulled through and is now healthy. The treatment was expensive, but it worked.

Lost my beloved Freddie to this horrible disease in 2015. At the time it was inevitably fatal.

Vet told us so, when we first got him. (Actually, cat chose us. No negotiations at the time, done deal as far as he was concerned.)

FIV does kill them early, from experience with previous FIV positive cats.
