Fixing a vacuum cleaner hose.

I have a 10-year old upright vacuum cleaner that was purchased at Walmart. Am I allowed to say the brand? It starts with an S and ends with a K.

Over the years, the hose cracked open in a couple places, which Mr. Diamond repaired with some Duct tape.
Recently the hose came apart from underneath the handle. Mr. D found a replacement handle/hose assembly kit for that model vacuum online and sent away for it ($23). I had no idea they sold those but apparently they do.

He was able to replace the handle assembly this morning using just a screwdriver - I watched him do it and I think I could do it myself if I ever need it replaced again. It seemed a shame to throw away the whole vacuum since the suction is still good.

Well I just used it and it works great and I’m so happy we didn’t have to spend $168 on a new one!

this thing doesnt suck.

the guy cracked up and swore no 1 had ever used that joke. i’ve always suspected he was kidding, and that was his stock response, rather than rolling his eyes at a new customer.

If you can’t fix it with duct tape or WD40, it ain’t worth fixin’.

A corollary to that old saying is: If it moves and isn't supposed to, use duct tape; if it's supposed to move and doesn't, use WD-40.

Those two items and a couple good screwdrivers should be able to handle almost anything!

I just shorted the power cords on two power strips that I installed under some kitchen cabinets.
I used the corner type. But they had 5 foot cords and I only needed 18 inches. For the new plugs I used ones that are flat to the wall with little flip up holders if you want to pull them out of the wall socket without yanking on the cord.
