What's for Dinner, Sun., Dec. 14, 2025

Posting early because I'm headed out into the snow due to a certain kitty cat demanding a certain flavor of cat food and who is staging a hunger strike until he gets it. Chicken won't do. Has to be seafood.

I made chili with red kidney beans, so I will have it tonight, doctored up with sour cream, raw red onion, grated cheddar, chopped scallions, and maybe avocado.

Hot honey cornbread.

Apple crisp with light vanilla ice cream for dessert, along with Earl Grey tea.

I make cabbage soup frequently & it's every bit as good as the labor-intensive cabbage rolls with a lot less work.

Enjoy!

Veganized, with a fistful of dried morels for oomph. I expect there will be PB sandwiches for dunking because I’m too lazy to bake bread on top of the 20 minutes I already spent in the kitchen. *smirk*

And in this house, don't even think about bringing a can of 9 lives or Friskies into it! Gravy or not, the disdain is palpable... as in turning their back to the dish, and using their back feel like shovels to cover it up with *something*!

It's Fancy Feast and a few other speciality companies for my crew. Maybe a Sheba here and there. There used to be these packages of food called "Whiskas" that were seafood and chicken packets. They also came in a box of several packs. My cats went NUTS for the seafood ones. Then they disappeared. Not too long ago, they've come back... minus the seafood. Only the chicken and duck is available. My cats won't touch it.

His last 6 months, I would feed him anything he wanted. He wanted it for maybe 3 days, then....the burying motion.

Since I had a large steak and cheese sandwich mid-morning, I had generic cheerios, blueberries, banana and almond milk followed by a couple of leftover ribs and slaw for dinner. There might be further items consumed after TJ heads out to work in an hour or so.

With a night shift worker coming home in the morning, breakfast is non-traditional some days hence the steak sandwich.

Saw a package of kung pao flavored tofu cubes at the store so I said why not?
Steam-fried in sesame oil and veggie broth: chopped onion, green and red bell pepper, celery and minced garlic. When done I added water chestnuts, the marinated tofu and a few Tbsps of Wegman’s Kung Pao sauce and peanuts. Gave it a stir and after tasting I thought it needed a little sweetness so I mixed in some teriyaki sauce and it was delicious. After plating I topped the dish with minced scallions. Brown rice on the side. Cheers!🥂
Cher, we’ve owned many super fussy cats over the years so I understand what you’re going through. But we’re lucky now to have the least finicky cat we’ve ever known. Our alpha male eats anything he’s presented with, dry, canned, poultry or seafood. Doesn’t matter to him, he seems to have an endless appetite. And he begs for human food; you’d think he had canine blood coursing through his veins. He’s still going strong at 10 years old.
