i no longer have to work saturdays

what does that have to do with this forum? a lot. in the last 12 years, i have had maybe 14 months of not having to work saturday and ten of those were due to being unemployed. those shifts have required me to radically shift my sleep schedule one day a week, waking up three to four hours earlier than every other day of the week. those shifts threw my body off so badly it would take three days to recover. those shifts would cause me so much stress and unhappiness.

but now, thanks to a change in another supervisor's work availability, my boss moved him to the dreaded day (which is also the worst day of the week at my job). my alarm didn't start going off at 8 this morning. i did not have to moan and grumble and smash my way through the morning. no more waking up nauseated and feeling hung over after a night of absolutely no alcohol, which is what my body does when i don't sleep enough. no morning anxiety attack over what my shift was going to look like. no more having to use the bathroom at work because that schedule has been blown to hell, too.

to celebrate my liberation, i'm taking a tai chi class with my sister on saturday afternoons. i've wanted to do this for a long time, but the classes are always at times i worked. it's just a six week class at the rec center, but i know it is going to do wonders for me. i took a similar class through the university rec center when i was in college and loved it.

just one more little thing moving my life in the right direction. baby steps, man, baby steps.

I put in 50-55 hours through the week, but I do have Saturday and Sunday off. It's a good trade-off although I still wish for a 40 hour work week at the same or better money than I'm making now.

Having enough money and still having some free time is a beautiful thing. Those weekends off really help my state of mind.

I'm glad to hear you're getting on a more normal schedule. And enjoy the class with your sister!

It's from the extended release seroquel, but hey, it works better than any other sleeping pill I've ever been on.

My motivation to do things is another story...
