this just doesn't seem right

my wife passed due to 14 yrs of suffering from this horror and we had the same oncologist for that entire time.
I just received a card from him saying that he made a donation in her name to himself.

Is that self serving ? Or just weird?

see why someone would not just say they made a "donation in her memory" and leave out the "to himself" - it does sound weird.
