Pope Francis accused of making homophobic slur in a closed-door meeting

Seeing Pope Francis accused of using a homophobic slur is a real gut punch, but sadly, it's not a shocker. For years, we've watched the Catholic Church send mixed signals on LGBT issues—sometimes hinting at progress, other times doubling down on old prejudices. So, when news like this breaks, it's a disappointing reminder that deep-seated biases are still alive and well in places we hoped were moving forward.

If the Pope really said what he's accused of, it shows just how far we still have to go. Here we have a guy who’s tried to come off as more inclusive, yet something like this happens. It’s a frustrating reality check for anyone who’s been holding out hope for genuine change. This just fuels the fire for us to keep pushing for true acceptance and respect, both in religious circles and out in the wider world.

Pope Francis allegedly told Italian bishops to not permit gay men to train for the priesthood, with two Italian newspapers claiming that the 87-year-old pontiff made a homophobic slur in a closed-door meeting last week.

Citing sources from inside the meeting, the Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica newspapers reported Monday that the Pope had made the comments while meeting with Italian bishops on May 20.

The newspaper articles, which were translated from Italian, claimed the Pope had said there is “frociaggine” – which translates in English to “faggotry” – in some of the seminaries.

The Church is concerned about not having enough priests.

As it is, The Church won't allow priests to marry and to have families. (To prevent the assets of The Church to legally pass to widows and to heirs)

If this is a futile attempt to prevent pedophile priests, it's not going to work. Pedophiles don't necessarily choose one gender over another.

Remember we're talking about the CEO of the worlds oldest and biggest international child rape conspiracy.
So he's our friend in public but in private really doesn't like us?

A Vatican-based Catholic cleric is ignorant about a vulgar Italian word for one of the elephants in the room. Really?

OK an Italo-Argentine, but he spoke it at home as a kid growing up.
Fluent in colloquial Italian of course.

Classic not-pology.

Anyone that believes the catholic church and it's past, current, or future popes are anything other than the protectors of a pedophile sex ring is a fool. That is what the church has always been. They will never stop unless they are destroyed. It began as a sex ring and will continue as such until the end. Demonizing lgbtqia+ people is an attempt to blame them for the sins of the rcc.
