TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas will no longer change transgender peoples birth certificates to reflect their gender identities, the state health department said Friday, citing a new law that prevents the state from legally recognizing those identities.
The decision from the state Department of Health and Environment makes Kansas one of a handful of states that wont change transgender peoples birth certificates. It already was among the few states that dont change the gender marker on transgender peoples drivers licenses.
Those decisions reverse policies that Democratic Gov. Laura Kellys administration set when she took office in 2019. They came in response to court filings by conservative Republican state Attorney General Kris Kobach to enforce the new state law. Enacted by the GOP-controlled Legislature over Kellys veto, it took effect July 1 and defines male and female based only on the sex assigned to a person at birth.

(594 posts)1. Why is "sex" needed on a birth certificate? Isn't a birth a birth? Is it important in today's
U.S. to know how many boys/girls are born? Why?

Kansas getting wiped out worse annually by climate change exacerbated droughts... but gotsta focus on procedural nothings.
Oh, Jeebus Christ Crunch Cereal just bake the f***ing cake already you screwballs. I'll do the damned decorating myself, now we gotsta start forging the birth certificates to compliance too?
It's all so stupid, manufactured outrage they're posting like crazy on the debate sites, of course with RW'ers confabulating all manner of demonizing exactly the same shit they used to about gay people that finally, mostly wore off.
How in the hell can Kansas politics get steered back to real problems?
