Conservative Justice Gorsuchs Remark During Supreme Court Arguments May Give LGBTQ Activists and Allies HopeThere is little news coming out of Tuesday mornings Supreme Court oral arguments in three cases that will determine if LGBTQ people have equal rights or can be fired merely for being LGBTQ. But a surprise remark is giving some LGBTQ people a drop of hope. Conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch has at the very least given the appearance he just might understand that anti-gay discrimination is sex discrimination.
First half of Scotus LGBT job-bias case suggests that gay-rights advocates have a least a chance of winning over Gorsuch (+ the four liberals), tweets Bloomberg News Supreme Court reporter Greg Stohr. He sums up Gorsuchs seemingly positive remark in this tweet:

Gorsuch says that when a person is fired because of sexual orientation, that person's sex is at least a "contributing cause."

(54,926 posts)1. Until I see it, I will NOT believe it.
Our rights are hinged on a shithead's appointment, I am not going to be optimistic.
Expect the worst, hope for the best; be unsurprised either way.
What will really surprise me, is if people actually give a shit! THAT will surprise me.

How he could have lived all these years in CO, learned NOTHING from the Amendment 43 debacle, much less Columbine, Aurora, and all the other mass shootings, AND lived in Boulder for years makes me wonder how the hell he can maintain some of his views. But, it would be refreshing if he actually set aside ideology for once.
