Five journalists working for a network associated with a Palestinian militant group were killed early Thursday when their vehicle was hit by an Israeli strike in the Nuseirat area of Gaza, according to the local authorities and news media reports.

The Israeli military said its air force had struck a vehicle overnight in Nuseirat with a “terrorist cell” from the militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad inside. Reports about journalists being targeted were “fake claims,” Nadav Shoshani, an Israeli military spokesman, said on social media.

The media office of Gaza’s Hamas-run government said five journalists from Al Quds Today, a Palestinian television channel, were killed in an Israeli strike on their broadcast vehicle. The channel has regularly featured Islamic Jihad leaders and promoted the group’s ideology.

The office said this brought the number of journalists killed in Gaza to 201 since the start of the war in October last year.

The vehicle, bearing the word “Press” in red letters, was hit near the gates of Al Awda Hospital, according to a post on social media from Quds News Network, another Palestinian news outlet.

Alleged membership in a terrorist cell (Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or PIJ) results in conviction and death sentence without a trial, hearing, or evidence. This is called Extra-Judicial Killing (XJK).

Does any alleged terrorist, militant, or criminal in the Gaza Strip ever have a day in an Israeli court to fight any charges?

On 2 Jul 2023, the Times of Israel reported that over 1,100 Palestinians were held by Israel without trial or hearing, the highest figure since 2003. This is months before the 7 Oct 2023 sneak attack to seize Israeli hostages for a prisoner swap.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in 2023 and 2024, 141 journalists and media workers killed in Israel, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and Lebanon. The above cited report claims the number is 201.

In contrast, Reporters Without Borders tallied 63 journalists who died over a 20-year period ending in 1975 while covering the Vietnam War.

In two years, with access to SIGINT, wiretaps, HUMINT sources, reconnaissance drones, and satellite imagery, the IDF has doubled what took the Vietnam War 20 years to do.

No one on the planet can dispute that journalists or World Central Kitchen (WCK) volunteers have been purposefully targeted by the Likud-led IDF in the slaughterhouse known as the Gaza Strip.

Five Al Quds Today TV journalists who doubled as Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists were killed in a targeted strike carried out by the Israel Air Force near the Nuesirat area of Gaza overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, the IDF said on Thursday afternoon. The IDF statement confirming the event came after Arab media outlets reported that five journalists working for the Palestinian news outlet were killed. These reports did not note their PIJ affiliations.

One of the sources the IDF said it used to confirm the identity of the terrorists it struck was taken from a list of PIJ operatives discovered by Israel's military during previous operations in the Gaza Strip.The IDF listed the names of the terrorists and what their roles in the terror group were. It said most of them were "combat propagandists," meaning their role in the terror group was to double as journalists.

Ibrahim Jamal Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Ali was a PIJ operative and combat propagandist. Faisal Abdallah Muhammad Abu Qamsan was the head of security for the Islamic Jihad in Nuseirat.Mohammed Ayad Khamis al-Lada’a was an Islamic Jihad combat propagandist. Ayman Nihad Abd Alrahman Jadi was an Islamic Jihad combat propagandist and former Islamic Jihad naval operative.

The above photograph is real but was not taken during the 2023-2024 Israel-Hamas crisis. It documents a 2016 protest in Israel in support of an Israeli soldier who was charged by the Israeli military with manslaughter in the death of a Palestinian man. As such, we rate the claim as "True," but with some missing context.

Clicking on the archive link, the header now says "Five Journalists Killed in Gaza Strike, Palestinian Media Says"

Apparently, contrary to the NYT article as it is cited in the OP, Palestinian officials say nothing now, and local authorities are nowhere to be found. Also, the name of one of the authors credited for the article in the OP is nowhere to be found as well.

That's curious... how did NYT manage to disappear them both in just a matter of hours?

Ok, so shit happens. People disappear into thin air, especially when credible sources and responsible journalism are on the line. Happens all the time. Let's forget about them and just work with what we have left. So what does the sole remaining author of the article, Yan Zhuang, based in Seoul (https://www.nytimes.com/by/yan-zhuang) is telling us now about the media reports?

"according to ~~the local authorities and~~ Palestinian news media reports."

Ok, and who exactly are the Palestinian news media whose reports NYT is relying on?

"from Al Quds Today", [the channel that] "has regularly featured Islamic Jihad leaders and promoted the group’s ideology". "according to a post on social media from Quds News Network"

and

"Images posted by Quds News Network also showed a charred white van. The provenance of these images could not be independently confirmed."

And why, one might ask, could the provenance of the images from Al Quds could not be confirmed?

Could it be because Al Quds Media, according to Media Bias Fact check, is

"A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing of credible information, a complete lack of transparency, and/or is fake news."

So both authors are back, and the local authorities are identified as the media office of Gaza’s Hamas-run government. Worth noting.

Another update: IDF identifies all five "journalists" as PIJ operatives, with their names and job titles taken from a list of PIJ operatives discovered by Israel's military during previous operations in the Gaza Strip.
