After Netanyahu vows plateau will forever remain under Israeli control, world body expresses deep concern
The UN Security Council on Tuesday rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus assertion that the annexed Golan Heights would forever remain under Israeli control and expressed concern over his statements.
The 15-member council agreed that the status of the Golan, which Israel captured from Syria in 1967, remains unchanged, said Chinese Ambassador Liu Jieyi, who holds this months council presidency.
Liu recalled a 1981 resolution which states that Israels decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights was null and void and without any international legal effect.
The council statement followed remarks made by Netanyahu earlier this month when his cabinet held a meeting in the territory, a first for an Israeli government.

(1,417 posts)Funny...I thought Israel did care about UNSC Resolutions such as 69 & 242.
If it doesn't then that solves a lot of problems......No Un recognition of Israel and no need to consider Israel's security.

(14,851 posts)That doesn't take the opinion expressed in your post seriously at all.
And it seems neither will the next Democratic Party president .

(26,060 posts)When Syria had the Golan rockets rained down on Northern Israel almost daily. Perhaps the useless, scummy UN thinks as assad or isis should have the Golan but that's NEVER going to happen. Syria attacked Israel, lost their territory and the freeking UN thinks they should get a do-over - fuck them.

(6,171 posts)there were allowed back and if they didn't want to return to Syria. As it is now, there are around 500 000 people waiting to return, and it won't happen until Israel gives the Golan Heights back to Syria.
Israel is committing a humanitarian injustice, and I feel that the primary motivation for not giving the Golan Heights back is pure greed.

(26,060 posts)And if you've ever been there and stood on the Golan, you'd realize giving it back to either al assad or isis would be madness and would only lead to what happened before they attacked Israel - rockets would rain down on Northern Israel DAILY. Syria fucked up by attacking Israel and losing that territory and yet you want them to get ANOTHER do-over. Humanitarian injustice, my ass.

(26,060 posts)Do you call all countries or companies that drill for or prospect for oil greedy - or just the Israeli's? At least your not pretending neutrality at all these days - that was patently ridiculous.

(6,171 posts)Just imagine if the US invaded another country and started to exploit its oil resources...
I don't automatically favor Palestinians over the Israelis, and my general beliefs are not derived from the I/P conflict. I try to be fair in my criticism. If you think I've portrayed Israel or Israelis in an unfair manner, please let me know.

(26,060 posts)Neither al assad or isis can be trusted with the Golan. If you've been to Israel and have stood on the Heights, you know why that is.
