North Korea fires multiple rounds of missiles after Lee apology
(Bloomberg) -- North Korea launched multiple rounds of ballistic missiles just days after South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed regret over an incident involving drones that crossed the border into the Norths airspace.
Pyongyang launched missiles from near Wonsan toward waters off its east coast on Wednesday morning, South Koreas Joint Chiefs of Staff said. South Koreas national security council held an emergency meeting and urged North Korea to stop acts that violate UN Security Council resolutions.
Hours later, North Korea fired at least one additional ballistic missile, the South Korean military said. The missiles flight range wasnt immediately clear, but Japans Coast Guard said the projectile likely has already fallen.
The launches took place days after a North Korean statement conveyed leader Kim Jong Uns rare praise for Lee in response to his apology over the drones. Seoul touted the messages exchanged by the two leaders as a meaningful step forward for their peaceful coexistence.
