The Le Constellation bar, where 40 people died and 116 were injured in a fire on New Year’s Eve, had not had any safety checks since 2019, the mayor of Crans-Montana has said.

A video of a previous New Year's Eve party at the bar shows that the danger posed by the foam padding on the ceiling had been known for a long time.

Authorities have said that the fire was likely started by sparklers that were too close to the ceiling.
