On the very first hours of invasion, there was one extremely crucial battle, that Putin counted on so much. And indeed, if Russians succeeded, this could've become their own version of a blitzkrieg. The quiet town with a giant plane we are talking about is Hostomel. The battle of Hostomel was that hidden battles that saved Ukraine. The first assaults began literally hours after Russians crossed the border. They were successful at first, but Ukrainians took the airport back. Just for Russians to bring enormous powers to recapture it back. But the airstrip was no longer usable. As a result, it became the first useless symbolic victory for the Russian military. And still, Ukrainians were able to finally and fully take it back once and for all.
