Scholz loses confidence vote triggering snap general election for Germany - DW News

We start with breaking news from here in Germany, where Chancellor Olaf Scholz has lost a vote of confidence in parliament.

Scholz won the support of only 207 lawmakers -- far short of the majority needed to win. He had been expected to lose the vote after his three-party coalition collapsed in early November, when he fired his finance minister in a dispute over how to revitalize Germany's stagnant economy. It paves the wave for snap elections in February.

Not good news but not surprising. He has been a tepid and tentative leader when that is not what is needed. dutch777 Dec 16 #1

And there was no way Merkel's shadow would not linger for quite some time. His slow walking of aid deliveries to Ukraine has angered me but maybe he had no political choice domestically
