Can America and China be Friends Again? - Good Times Bad Times

Strategic rivalries on the international stage do not last forever, eventually they simply end. There comes a day when perpetual rivals stop obsessively searching for ways to annihilate each other and focus on other areas. This happens for a variety of reasons--the balance of power in the region or the world may have changed and unexpected technological breakthrough may have occurred an internal model of governance may have collapsed. Or it may have happened as a result of a war--a kinetic one between opponents or one in which just one of the rivals is involved. Finally it may have happened as a result of one of the rivals achieving a perceived goal a goal that does not necessarily involved the complete annihilation of the existing enemy.
