(25,729 posts)I went vegetarian in 1982 and vegan in 2013.
Lots of vegetarians do cut way back on dairy and eggs. I did more and more until I realized it wouldn't be so hard to go vegan.
So some vegetarians do eat lots of dairy and eggs. Others don't. I am of the belief that for those vegetarians who cut way back on dairy and eggs and use a lot of substitutes but for some reason don't go full vegan, they are causing less suffering than the omnivores. But, the ones who have dairy and or eggs with most meals are really no different than the omnivores.

(14,617 posts)I am looking down the barrel of 70. Walk 3.5 miles five days a week. I take zero medications.
I DO eat eggs a couple of days a week. Maybe a little cheese one day a week. Just saying
not dangerous.
So I should remove milk/cream with coffee, and b'fast 'omelettes,' I guess, thus resulting in eating little (of my current diet.)
May go to nearby place tomorrow, for Irish Coffee (deleting the CREAM!!!) but have hummus, w red pepper, and sweet potato now baking in the oven.

(20,026 posts)I eat a little salmon once in a while.
I mostly live on potatoes and sweet potatoes and a bunch of different cooked veggies.
Meat does not appeal to me any more. I am not a cook so I just steam or air fry my food and eat it plain.

(4,155 posts)calf when gestation is complete. I'm mainly vegan, but get a few eggs from friends who have happy family chickens as pets. I agree the egg and dairy industry are cruel, but often people will eat a vegetarian diet for a while before going full vegan. In that scenario I think it's like a stepping stone and can help some folks transition to veganism.
