Added Marmite to my vegan gravy.

I added Marmite to my vegan gravy & it was the best gravy I've ever made! I originally bought it to spread on toast, cuz i read it was good, but I didn't really like it that way. But in gravy, it added nice depth of flavor. Just in time for Thanksgiving, huh?

and people just look at me like I've got my space helmet on backwards.

The key to a great vegan brown gravy is to make a strong stock by mixing Vegemite or Marmite into warm water. Then you can thicken it any way that appeals to you. The sauce will have a very rich, almost meaty flavor. I especially liked it with seitan-veggie stir fries, those even fooled meat eaters.

I'm still not fond of the stuff on toast, but it's a great way to give sauces, stir fries, and things like plain tofu a flavor kick.

I'll mix some with water & try it out on baked tofu. I'm making some tonight.
