Amtrak needs more aid to survive

Amtrak has seen a 95% drop in ridership and expects a 50% ridership decrease through 2021. It has already reduced and suspended some service, but in order to maintain operations Amtrak says it will need an additional $1.5 billion in federal aid on top of the stimulus money it has already received. I've taken Amtrak a couple of times and just love it. I was booked to take the train from New Mexico to Seattle via Chicago on April 1, but cancelled. It would have been a wonderful trip. Nearly 24 hours on the first leg, I'd booked a hotel for the overnight in the windy city, then two and a half days to Seattle. I just hope I can take that trip at some point in the future.
