Related: About this forumFor women: one of the best ways to survive hot summer temps
Wanted to share this Etsy site with women here at DU.
I discovered, last year, this wonderful seamstress, specializing in tunics and caftans. She makes a size to your measurements, how wonderful is that??
Finally I found something cool and light as air to wear in our horrible summer heat!

(60,011 posts)until I hit a certain age and needed sunshine.
Also I prefer to live in a rural setting.
So, luckily, was able to make Ala happen for me.
You will be glad to know that if you order from Judy, she lives in Mesquite Tex so postage shoud not be much of a problem.
I ordered one thing that did not work for me and she took it back with no probs at all.
And, she uses double ( French) seams, no way is any material going to separate.
Seems like any clothes I buy elsehwere I have to re-inforce the buttons and seams.

(110,159 posts)i am sittin here in overcast and a jacket... in MAY, lol, yea. i love it. i think this area is finally done with the two year la nina. rain and cooler weather. i have so many trees and a park with tons of trees, i was telling son yesterday with this weather i can pretend i am in Wa. lol.
i cant stand restrictive clothing. i stretch my tshirts, lol. almost every arm has a hole under the arm. sigh. double seams sound good.
appreciate the recommendation.

(60,011 posts)all over the upper half of my body, front, sides and back,
I was left with residual pain, could not bear the feel of snug clothes.
Judy's line of tunics and caftans saved my life.
Since I am retired, I do not have to be out in public unless I choose to,
so i can wear the lightest fabrics, even in 95% humidty summers, and not feel uncomfortable.
And since she makes them to my size specifications, they are not too snug or too loose.
You are in Amarillo, right?
And getting cool weather?
Wow....

(60,011 posts)they might be an answer.
Loose and comfortable, very light, not tight.
and she has some nice loose dresses, empire waist style.
Also for night time, I wear one of her plain material lighweight tunics, because I have to sleep with the ceiling fan on
in the summer and it keeps the draft off my upper body.
Btw..I bought some earrings from you, and they all go very well with her caftans!

(60,011 posts)the designs and colors really vary, so of course looking thru what is offered is the best way to go

(60,011 posts)I cannot STAND constrictive clothes, and have gotten real spoiled wearing light as a feather. dropped from the shoulder caftans and tunics.
And spoiled by the Etsy site. Everything I bought from the various sellers has been just as good as advertised, plus they ship instantly, even the dresses from India.

(6,151 posts)I also got spoiled to caftans, tunics, and dashikis when I lived where I now think of as 'abroad', though often it was only outside the MidWest. In this tiny town they even have a 10-cent clothes closet which most people visit for clothes that are still nice, even some expensive ones with the tags still on. There's a tiny cadre of uber-rich people here. Less than 5K people in a huge county, fewer than 2K in the county seat, and most people are far worse off than I am. But when a tiny town supports 4 major branches of big banks, you know there's $ somewhere.
Anyhow, the clothing selection's fine for everyday yard work and regular bumming around, but someone like me w/what they call 'foreign' tastes, nothing fun to wear can be found. Thank you for tipping me off to a great online store where the prices are certainly competitive to many outlets, especially considering the apparent quality.
When I wear the summer caftans and floats I do have, I add jewelry and a dressy straw 'picture' hat so people don't accuse me of running around in my nightie.
Yes, many are that ignorant.
Oh, I forgot to tell you I found some Asian elephant print cotton online and made wrap-around 'fisherman' pants. If someone asks why I'm wearing what they mistake for a GOP symbol, I'll say it's okay because I'LL BE SITTING ON IT!

(60,011 posts)Some of the prints can be cut down.
and best of all, in this southern heat, I always stay cool.
Happy shopping...I know exactly what you mean by not finding clothes to your taste...
