President Lula (PT) will have to repeat new neuroimaging tests within the next 72 hours to ensure there is no bleeding or edema in the area behind his skull (occipital), which was injured after he slipped and fell in the bathroom. According to doctors consulted by Folha , this is the standard protocol in such cases. The medical report stated that Lula suffered a "lacerated-contused wound in the occipital region," responsible for visual perception, and received stitches in the area behind his head. He was treated at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in Brasília and is continuing to be monitored at home.
The accident occurred on the night of Saturday (19), as first reported by Folha s Mônica Bergamo column, and happened as Lula and First Lady Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja, were finalizing preparations for a trip to Russia, where he would attend the BRICS summit.
On medical advice, the trip was cancelled. Neurosurgeon Luiz Severo, a pain specialist, says that, according to available information, the president suffered a mild traumatic brain injury. "He did not lose consciousness, did not exhibit other warning signs, and arrived at the hospital conscious and alert."
According to him, the term "lacerated-contused wound" also indicates that in addition to the trauma, the president suffered a cerebral contusion, meaning a brain surface injury that involves small hemorrhages.

BRASILIA, Oct 22 Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the head injury he suffered from a fall at home over the weekend was serious and that doctors expect to have a clear view on its severity in three or four days, according to a phone call published by an ally yesterday.
The presidents injury forced him to cancel a trip to Russia for a summit of the BRICS group of major emerging markets being held in Kazan, following medical advice to temporarily avoid long-haul flights.
A source from Brazils government told Reuters Lula was not aware the conversation about his injury would be released on social media. The presidential palace declined to comment on the video.
Lulas fall at home on Saturday caused great trauma to the back of his head, requiring stitches for the injury and resulting in a small brain hemorrhage in the temporal-frontal region, his doctor Roberto Kalil previously said.
