Related: About this forumTexas kids use magnifying glass to burn newspapers and set lawn on fire
Maybe I shouldn't get my niece a magnifying glass when she's older
A Christmas present landed a pair of Texas boys in hot water after it helped set their front lawn on fire.
The Parsons got their 12-year-old son a magnifying glass for Christmas, assuming it would be used for reading.
Instead, the boy and his brother used it to burn some newspapers. Moments later, they came running in to report the lawn was on fire.

I'm really thirsty, he says...
My wife gets suspicious and goes to the back yard and sees papers on fire next to the vegetable garden. Gets the garden hose and puts it out.
Same story; a kid with a magnifying glass.
It's practically inevitable.

good stuff all kids should learn about. of course knowing how to put a fire out is an even better skill, one that might outta be gained first.
