This is the dramatic moment a moped gang tried to steal a £250,000 BBC camera installed for todays Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race on Putney Bridge.
The gang struck on Thursday during evening rush hour stopping traffic as one of them tried to cut the camera down with an angle grinder.
The gang of six, all dressed in black, were thwarted by an off-duty policeman and rode off empty handed only to successfully steal another BBC camera at Barnes Bridge.
The BBC has installed 30 camera along the River Thames for its coverage of the annual university Boat Race.
Shocked rush-hour commuters looked on in horror at the attempt to steal the camera on Putney Bridge which is the start of the iconic boat race.
