Again, Iowa can hold its own when it comes to weirdness;
A rural Dubuque man faces criminal charges for allegedly driving while under the influence of heroin and crashing into his house.
Caleb J. Crawford, 25, is charged in Iowa District Court for Dubuque County with operating while intoxicated, possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license. He made an initial court appearance Thursday, and his bond was set at $5,000.
Court documents state Dubuque County Sheriffs Department deputies responded at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday to 11991 Ledgewood Drive for a report of a vehicle against the side of a garage. Crawford was unconscious in the vehicle and had fresh track marks on his arm, deputies reported.
Authorities found a belt tied in a loop and a needle with a brown substance identified as heroin inside the vehicle, according to court documents. Investigators said Crawford admitted to using heroin shortly before the crash.
