iMac tends to slow down on occasion, especially Safari. Any suggestions on fixing the issue?

(53,661 posts)Is working fine, even though mine has a few thousand bookmarks. I've installed adblocker with NoScript which speeded up Firefox and enabled a PopUp stopper with Safari.
It's become a real trial, so I empty the cache as often as possible. It used to be much faster, though. I'm also clearing out gig as fast as I can on the iMac to see if it helps.
Anything other than that, IDK, except I've found also that shutting down Safari and starting up again resets something and it works faster. Try those things if you haven't already, empty the cache, shut it up, update Safari.
If you come up with something better, please post it here.
