What do I need to connect my Macbook Pro to my television?

(68,476 posts)You need a simple adapter to do it. You just need to get the right one. Apple makes a bunch of them that connect to the micro DVI port of your computer. They come in many flavors of output - HDMI, VGA, DVI, Video, etc.
This one is typical, it has RCA and S-Video out.

Once you have this connected to your TV, you go to System Preferences=>Displays to set it up.

(12,498 posts)I searched around and found that I could use a mini data port, using the Thunderbolt port on my new Macbook Pro, with a VGA connection to my HDTV. I guess I am assuming my TV is Thunderbolt compatible.
