Any Excel gurus in the house?
Howdy! I'm a fairly competent user but I've got a task that's driving me nuts! I've got two spreadsheets from different sources with the common link being an employee name. The data from the two spreadsheets needs to be merged into a new spreadsheet which will take some data from both sources but not all of it. I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to do this. I'm thinking maybe VLOOKUP or IFSUMS could be the way to go, but I keep making a mess of it. Any thoughts on what strategy would be best to accomplish this? I'm happy to do the YouTube searches for step by step instructions, but I'm hoping that someone has an idea which approach might be least cumbersome.
thanks for any advice you can offer!

(4,165 posts)... converting the two spreadsheets into tables and putting the tables in tabs on that same spreadsheet. Then use the tables as the basis for VLOOKUP. Exploring that further.

(49,638 posts)First convert the spreadsheet data to table data then you can reference them from another sheet. Go to a site like Mr. Excel or just google related tables in excel.

(4,165 posts)so I need to think about which function allows me to repeat this referencing new data points for different purposes. I'll try a sample set with each of those approaches and see which gives me the least challenges!

(25,738 posts)I did spreadsheets for a living for a good number of years, so I can pretty much make Excel sing and dance jigs. I'd be happy to assist, but need a bit more info. Send me a PM if you want.
