(60,011 posts)I use that sentence to lookup almost everything I am considering using/buying. It has been very helpful.
Most of the time you will find a respectable consumer site in the search and can add it to your bookmarks for future use.

(6,568 posts)My wife had it before we got together. They made her buy the receiver and the dish (with the understanding that she would receive the deposit back when she cancelled). When she moved and went to return it, they wouldn't give her any money back because she didn't bring the dish that they bolted to her house, and they refused to pick it up.

(60,011 posts)When we bought this house, the rather old dish was firmly bolted to the roof, and the previous owner had been using DISH network.
We wanted to merely transfer the service, but DISH said we had to install a new ..well, a new dish.
We refused, I told them never mind, so they relented, and we used the receivers as well.
Few years later, we dumped the old tvs, being spoiled by computer screens.
We just had to return the receivers and of course the previous owner did not get any money back.
I then asked them to come take their dish back.
They refused.
It's still on the roof.
Break time
(195 posts)Last resort, and I do mean last... I installed sat. internet for a while for starband, they beat hughes all to hell and they were really not that good.. If you have never used sat. internet before you don't know about satellite lag for signals, you cannot play any first person type games, downloads are fast but that is about all the good there is for it, the data caps are ridiculous, and with todays HUGE web pages with all the ads and videos you will over run them fast... Ping time is terrible, you have to figure the time frame for the signal, it has to go from you to the sat. 22000 miles then back to earth that same distance then back to the sat. again then down to you again the best pings you can hope for is about 600mls.,that is about the best you will ever see and doubtful you would actually see anything that fast..Exede is better than hughes but not by a lot. Do a google on FAP and Hughes ...

(62,523 posts)eyeopener! About twenty reviews just this month alone and every one was negative. Totally negative. I am so glad I posted here for an opinion.

(49,445 posts)...you can get a USB dongle that will connect your computer to the cellular data network. Much better than them. Your computer will be on the same 4G network as a smart phone.
My aunt had them in Illinois and it was terribly slow. I understand a latency problem; you had to go back and forth with a satellite 22k miles away. But it was not much faster than dial up.

(49,445 posts)Might a well see what the cell phone companies can do for you. They might have a 4G router, for example. So you can have Wi-Fi in your house but it connects to the cell network instead of a cable modem.

(62,523 posts)and the local cell guy felt there were too many variables to venture into carving it into stone, though it seemed to me that the G boosts to cover shortfalls seemed reasonably priced, at least to me a cheap non tech sort of guy.

(39,059 posts)The dial-up was very slow, over phone lines that were probably last upgraded in the 'sixties.
My sister-in-law discovered if she held her own cell phone in just the right spot she could connect to the internet.
My in-laws now connect to the internet through a cell phone provider, even though they are outside the provider's official coverage map. Their little wifi hotspot machine lives in that sweet spot.

(1,596 posts)and I really don't have anything to complain about.
Except maybe the telephone tech support which is usually very frustrating.
It could be faster but it has unlimited downloads overnight.
