Related: About this forumShould Laura Kelly(D-KS) run for the US Senate?
Kelly is unable to make another/3rd term run for Governor due to term limits. The last time KS had a Democratic US Senator was in the 1930s.
KS is more Democratic than AL,AR,ID,IN,KY,LA,MS,MO,MT,NE,ND,OK,SD,TN,UT,WV,and WY.
KS is trending Democratic
Trump won KS in 2016 by a 21 percent margin and in 2020 by a 15 percent margin.
The Republican incumbent is Roger Marshall who is MAGA Republican.

(29,873 posts)If KS voted her governor, seems they'd be just as happy to vote her in as senator.

(8,617 posts)I picked Laura Kelly because she has high name recognition and she won 2 statewide elections(Governor) on her own.
Sharice Davids represents a safe Democratic US House seat in KS.

(34,408 posts)I like her a lot, not in my district sadly. Even though they tried to redistrict her out of office she still won. I sure like her and I know a lot of people who do but not sure she could do this. Might as well try if she has the desire.

(4,441 posts)I'd be very concerned with her running against a MAGA... same as I'd be concerned with any Democrat running against a MAGA around here. Remember... we still don't have legalized pot of any kind yet. That should tell you something about the personalities we deal with among common people.
I really like Sharice Davids, tho. I was thrilled when she won. I have about 25% American Indian running through my genes. Her victory made me proud... both in that regard, and as a woman. I remember back in the bad old days when either one of those kept you hidden in the background.
Still, you have to hope between the damage done here by the Brownback revolution and *rump's many criminal acts... especially the National Security documents, maybe people around here are finally waking up. There are a lot of military and former military in this state.

(70 posts)We need to figure out how to turn around some of these states. Stick to basic facts and kitchen table issues and the Democrats have a good chance to start turning things around.

(4,441 posts)I do hope you plan on counting abortion as one of those kitchen table issues (see what I mean, about hating the analogy! lol)
That one issue drew more voters out to the polls than just about ANY issue in recent history in this red state. And we democrats (and the republican women who wanted to keep abortion available beat the millions of dollars pumped into the campaigns by the RNCC and the Catholic church). Forgetting this, and pushing it back into the background (once again) in favor of the usual "kitchen table issues" will lose us elections.... and end up losing women even more rights.
Promote the old kitchen table issues? Sure! But dang, we have a cornucopia of issues we can hit this time around, if only we actually do it! I'm definitely -not- saying throw away the old... but I AM saying don't wrap yourself in what worked before in the old "normal" and expect it alone to work in today's "normal." That's the mild-mannered Democratic way of thought.
Not even counting trump... look at what the repugs have given us over the last few days...
Ramaswami or whatever his name is, wants to deny young people the right to vote... unless they fulfil some sort of Star Troopers citizenship program.
You still have repugs trying to kill abortion in several states and coming up against massive demonstrations of the populace against it.
You have repugs changing the law on bringing citizen proposals to the ballots to be voted on. Repugs don't like that. They HATE direct democracy of any kind.
You have governors changing the divorce laws without any input from the populace. People don't like that, either.
You have a huge number of items that can be drawn from the SCOTUS and any number of proposals for "fixing" it after the next election.
And that's not even touching guns, birth control, the EPA, or Climate Change.
Most of this stuff is drawn from what we're living as our new "normal"... the "New" kitchen table issues... although I prefer to call it dystopia.
