Exploratory free trade talks are underway this week as Canadian and Chinese officials visit one another's countries to discuss what a potential agreement might look like.

Chinese officials are gathering at the offices at Global Affairs Canada, while two federal ministers, International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne and Finance Minister Bill Morneau, are in China.

In Washington on Friday, Morneau said his China trip will focus on furthering relationships with his Chinese counterparts and key industry players, while Champagne works to promote the use of Canadian lumber in home construction.

Minister of Natural Resources Jim Carr will travel to China in June with forestry leaders to further look for new markets.

Are all for this. China is a good alternative.

Sorry for the good half of America like those on DU,

My NJ brother is a Trump lover. I cut off commutation with him since Trump is president.

China is NOT a "good alternative" unless you want to do business with a maffia state with its boot on the neck of its own people with NO regard for rule of law. The US elects a dumbass who says racist things and you'll trade it up for a fascist regime committing cultural genocide and threatening our allies?

You like the idea of Chinese companies being able to import their own workforce?

You like the idea of China not abiding by a single thing it says it will in the agreement?

You like the idea of China forcing Canadian tech companies to give up their trade secrets then China closing down the Canadian contingent of the company in China so the local state-owned corps don't have to compete?

Trudeau is an absolute idiot when it comes to China as are the Bay St. Libs. Don't by his bullshit. An FTA with China is bad news.

Great Britain now that Brexit has happened. Or that Britain will try to get into NAFTA. Trump sure has made the world 'the wild west.

I think that an FTA with the UK would benefit us a lot more than them though.
