Prime Minister Mark Carney will ask the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call a federal election this Sunday, Radio-Canada has learned.

The election campaign will kick off barely a week after Carney was sworn in as prime minister and appointed his cabinet.

Carney's trip to Rideau Hall to speak to Gov. Gen. Mary Simon will come a day before MPs were scheduled to return after Parliament was prorogued on Jan. 6.

An election campaign is expected to last between 36 and 50 days. Election day remains to be confirmed, but voters are expected to cast their ballots on either April 28 or May 5, according to sources that spoke with Radio-Canada.

Of course the deadline is October.

But Pierre Axe The Tax Poilievre was determined to force one as soon as possible, still is. He (his party) was riding high in the polls for almost two years but have dropped a lot in the last couple of months.

Either we have an election now or we re-open Parliament. In Parliament there would be a No Confidence motion. If the NDP vote with the Liberals they would keep the government in power. They have dropped in the polls as the Conservatives have fallen and the Liberals risen as Carney looked like winning and then won the leadership. If there is an election now the NDP will be squeezed so they might have.

Carney has done a quick calculation based on the idea that now with the wind in his sails is the best time to seek a mandate. Many Canadians want a strong capable leader right now while under this economic back stab by our one-time friend. Right now, Mr Axe The Tax is view as perhaps a bit too much adjacent to tRump and tRumpism / Muckism.

Though Doug Ford is Conservative, he just won a majority in Ontario's election by running as a "strong leader", anti-tRump despite previous embraces. Carney is sensing that being a credible counter to tRump-Lutnick-Bessant is a winning play right now.

Parties can place ads freely between elections, but during the 5 to 8 weeks that an election is declared till election day there are strict limits on spending to keep things more equal and a bit more focused.

The Conservative Party has a big warchest right now. The conners would have used any extra time to define Carney. In what little time there has been, they have been hammering him with ads that try to smear him with as corrupt.

so they opposition could have banded together and caused an election at any time Parliament was sitting. Carney also didn't have a seat so he needed to run. I'm just glad it is the spring so lots of people will more easily canvas and volunteer.
