GOP urges Wisconsin election officials to investigate Green Bay duplicate ballot mailings

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The city of Green Bay's response to a complaint about duplicate absentee ballots being inadvertently sent out for the April 7 election "should shock the conscience" of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, the Republican Party of Wisconsin said in its latest brief in the case.

Before the spring election, 152 absentee voters received multiple ballots due to an administrative error. The city said it notified those voters and took steps to make sure no person voted twice.

Theresa Sipes and the Republican Party of Wisconsin filed a complaint April 6 with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, seeking an investigation and remedial action. In its reply, the city said since no one voted twice and Green Bay followed the proper procedures, the case should be dismissed.

The Sipes-GOP reply urges the WEC to rule on the case regardless:

Complainant respectfully renews her request that the commission investigate the cause and scope of the violations, order appropriate remedial and corrective action and establish clear precedent that the mailing of duplicate ballots violates Wisconsin law, whether intentional or no,” the brief states.
