Who's running for Madison School Board and City Council this year

Wisconsin voters will again have a busy election year in 2026, with some consequential statewide and federal races in the fall. But before those ballots are cast, a number of other important elections are happening this spring.

While another state Supreme Court race will likely be the highest-profile election, there will also be many local races that University of Wisconsin-Madison political science professor Barry Burden said voters should pay attention to in the spring.

“Those really matter to people’s daily lives because they affect transportation policy and alcohol licenses and tax rates and all kinds of things,” Burden said.

As spring elections can creep up on voters after winter holidays, Burden said voters need patience and vigilance to keep up with candidates and learn about their ballot.
